After finishing my Food: A-Z Project I thought I would try another foodie project. I decided on a cookbook project, starting with Jerry Traunfeld's "The Herbfarm Cookbook". I've had the cookbook for a while now and haven't made anything in it but that's about to change. The internet just makes it too convenient to find recipes so this will be a good project to get me cooking stuff I wouldn't normally. I will be picking one recipe from each category in the cookbook. I'll try to do this once a week. When I get through making something from each category I'll move on to another cookbook.
The first category is Soups. I picked out a carrot soup recipe titled Unami Carrot Soup with Mint. I won't be posting the recipe on here so you'll have to go buy the cookbook if you want to make it. The recipe calls for carrot juice which gave me a reason to use my juicer. I don't use it too often, mainly because it takes so long to clean all the parts. I also used my mortar and pestle for the first time to grind the coriander.
The soup turned out pretty tasty however, I think it would have been better with a little less coriander. This was my first time eating carrot soup, but I've always been a fan of carrots. I think my mom thought I would turn orange when I was a kid for eating so many carrots. I forgot to save some of the mint for garnish then I remembered I had mint in my herb garden so grabbed some.
Below are some of the photos I took of the prep as well as the finished results.
