Tagged

I just noticed I got tagged by Serra, my first tagging.

Sometimes I do these, sometimes I don't. I think I'll do this one. Haven't seen it before.

For some reason, no one tags me for meme's...until now. Evilsciencechick at ...but mostly rants however, has done just that. So, here's my answers to the five-question book meme.

1) What is the total number of books I've owned?
It takes me forever to read a book. I don't usually throw them out after I read them though. And I never go to the library. I have a bookcase downstairs and in my computer room. I have novels as well as reference books and school books. I probably have no more than 50.

2) What is the last book I bought?
Last book I bought I think was Paul Theroux's collected stories. It's a bunch of short stories. He's a well known author that writes travel books. So, when I bought this I was expecting a bunch of short travel stories, but I was wrong. It wasn't anything like I expected. I've read 2 of the 50 or so short stories in the book. Not sure if I'll ever get around to reading the rest. It's kind of my backup book.

3) What is the last book I've read?
Well the book I'm reading now is called The Sex Lives of Cannibals by J. Maarten Troost. I know what you're thinking, but the book really isn't about sex or cannibals. It's a book about this couple that goes to some strange island in the south pacific and all the stuff they go through while there. It's actually pretty funny. Doug got it for me cuz I was looking for a travel book to read.

4) What are the 5 (plus) books that have meant a lot to me?
Hmm good question. I dunno if they really mean that much to me but I guess my fav books are: Lion Witch & Wardrobe, Johnathan Livingston Seagull, The Little Prince, Harry Potter, The Bible. Hmm most of these are these are kids books...

Extra credit question, 'What book would you wish to buy next?':
Will probably buy the next book in the Left Behind series called The Rising.

TAG! (5 people whose collections I want to pry into):
Not gonna bother with this one cuz I doubt anyone would actually do this or they already have.

My Resume

I had this voicemail when I got to work the other day. It was kinda funny. It was a guy calling and he works for Cingular, as do I. He had some questions about some equipment that we use. But the weird part is how he found me. He was searching the internet for info on CP800's. He apparently did not come up with much. He said the only thing he could find in his search for CP800 info was my resume! :O Apparently I have in my resume that I have mad CP800 skillz or something. I haven't really updated it in a while, not sure what's on it. I could look, but I'm too lazy. But I'm not too lazy to put a link to my resume on my blog. This equipment is a DACS that does T1 and DS0 crossconnects. The equipment has been owned by several different companies over the years and each one changes it's name. It was once called IMACS, CP800, 1518, and now it's apparently back to IMACS, I think there was another name too but I can't remember what it was. This guy probly could have found more info on these boxes if he knew all of it's alternate names. We have always called them CP800's though. I'm not sure why but that name seems to have stuck more than any of the others. I just thought it was funny how this guy found me. He musta saw that I work for Cingular on my resume and looked my number up in the global address book or Peoplesoft. SO the end of the story is that I gave him the info he wanted and he was a happy camper.

Look at them teeth move!

It's only been about 2 and a half months since I got my braces on and wow I can't believe how much they've moved already! If they continue to move as fast as they have been maybe I won't have to wear em for 2 whole years. That will be nice. I took another set of pics to show the progress. I think I will take a set of pics every couple months or so. It's kinda neat to see how far they've moved in such a short time. I still have my goth black bands on and they aren't coming off till June. Hmm what color should I do next? Maybe I'll go with red.

Deck Repairing

I know my deck is way over due for some maintenance. This week is looking to be a nice one so I think I'm going to do some work on it. For the 4 years or so that I've lived there I haven't really done anything to the deck. I've been doing some research to see what I need to do to get it back in shape. Looks like the first step will be to clean it. I'm gonna go to a hardware store after work today and look for some deck cleaner and either clean it tonight or more likely tomorrow. I'll decide if it needs any sanding while I'm cleaning it. Then after a few days of drying I'll slap on some water sealer or staining. Not really sure which is better to use. I've never done it before. One site had suggested Olympic Deck Cleaner for cleaning it and Cabot's Decking Stain. I'll see what they have I guess. I want something that's going to last a few years so I want to get a good one. I guess there's some you can buy that only are good for a year. I don't wanna have to do this every year. If anyone has suggestions let me know.

Peruvians are like Canadians

Okay I figure it's about time to start making some posts about our trip. One thing that we noticed is that Peruvians talk a lot like Canadians. You know how Canadians always say "ay" or "you know" after about everything they say. Well Peruvians also do this though they say "yah" after everything. They say it really fast too it's not a long yah. They say stuff like "it's cold out today, yah" or "you owe me 20 sole's yah" or if you say thank you they'll respond with "yah" instead of you're welcome or de nada which I think is what is spanish for you're welcome.

Pretty much everyone we talked to spoke spanish even if they knew English because Doug can speak spansih. I can understand it a bit but can't really speak much at all so I usually just smile and nod if someone says something to me in spanish. They just don't like speaking English. We had an "English speaking" guide when we went to see the Pisac ruins. We didn't plan on having a guide he was just there and asked if we wanted one so we said sure. He found out Doug spoke spanish and knew I didn't but he spoke spanish anyway even after Doug told him I didn't speak spanish and asked if he could speak in English. He either didn't understand him or hear him or didn't really speak English like he said. Doug translated some for me but it was kinda hard to translate everything cuz he was talking so fast and we were in a hurry because we had to get back to our cab that was waiting for us to take us back in an hour. An hour wasn't really enough time to spend there but we took what we could get. It was fairly late in the day and we were about the only people there which was a nice change compared to the other places we had been.

Peru pics are here!

Finally got all my pics up on my site for your viewing pleasure! Check out the Gallery. I have a section for each place we went so click each one for more pics.

Here's a quick summary of what we did: We walked on floating islands, slept with bats flapping above our heads on an island with no running water or electricity, walked on Inka trails, ate Alpaca, took a 10 hour train from Cusco to Puno, were pick pocketed in Lima, saw more than 7 different ruins, had a pizza taste test in Puno, had French fries at almost every meal, spent a few minutes at a wedding celebration, and walked around at 14,176 ft elevation.

I may make another post to expound on some of the high points, but it will have to be another time because I have a lot of work to catch up on.

Why Dell Why?

Tell me if this makes any sense to you.

I ordered a Dell laptop before I left for vacation thinking it would arrive before I left. It ended up arriving the day we were to fly to Peru. UPS would not hold the package because it hadn't attempted it's first delivery yet which I think is pretty dumb. I told them no one would be here to sign for it but they didn't care. So they ended up sending the package back to Dell and it should arrive back at Dell today. I talked to a Dell rep yesterday and asked if it could be redelivered back to me and they said no but they could just put in a new order. So it has to be rebuilt again and go through the whole process of a new order when they could have just reshipped the package that was already ordered. What is the point of this? What are they going to do with the returned laptop? It makes no sense unless the reps get to keep any returned laptops or something. I looked at my account and the price for the new one does not have the discount on it so they better not charge me full price for it.

Doug had the same issue with Dell and the first person told him that they would credit him back the money and that they couldn't ship it back or ship him a new one. I told him he should try back later and talk to someone else and he did and they did the same thing that they are doing with me. That just seems stoopid.

Back from Peru

Yah I'm back and I have a ton of pics to go through 500+. So you'll just have to wait. I might get them all up tonight, but I doubt it. We'll see... Lots to tell but don't really have time now. I'm too busy at work today. I kept a journal while I was gone. It's about 40 pages long. I probly won't post it all here but I'll probly take tidbits from it. Gotta get back to work. Will write more later! Just wanted to let everyone know I'm back safe and sound.
