The parents discover internet phone

So I was online in yahoo as usual last night, playing CoH and I hear this faint ringing noise. I looked around and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Oh well, it's not my phone. It finally stopped then I hear it again. I look at the computer and I see an incoming call on yahoo. It was mom n dad. hmm wonder if they know what they're doing. They are not exactly computer literate. I knew the latest version of yahoo has a voice calling feature but I had never used it before. I decided I'd click the accept call button. I put my headset on and said hello? I didn't hear anything. I assume at this point my dad is running for my mom as he usually does when he finds something kewl or messes something up or just wants to show her something exciting he found or did with the computer. I say "hello?", no response.... I say "hello?" a few more times "is anyone there?" I hear a bit of chatter in the background. Then I can hear my mom talking to my dad "how did you do that? what did you do? Is that Paula?" He goes on to show her what he did. At this point I don't think they know I can hear them. I ask "what are you guys doing? can you hear me?" I get a response back this time from my mom saying "yes we can hear you". Now I think they are in total shock and amusement that I can even hear them. She says they have no mic on the computer so doesn't know how I am able to hear them. Mom says dad can't believe and threw his arms up and left the room. Chatted with mom for a few minutes. I think they want to get rid of their phone line now...

Photo Date: Bellevue Botanical Gardens

Doug and I took a little trip to the Bellevue Botanical Gardens to take pics of their annual Garden d'Lights presentation. I didn't even find out about this thing till last week but they apparently do it every year and it's a fairly popular holiday destination around here. We decided to go last night and lucky for us it wasn't raining. This is only going on for another couple of days so I'm glad we were able to make it. The lights were amazing. I can't imagine how long it took them to get this all put together. I've got my pics up on flickr. Click the pic to see the rest.

Finally 50!

Woo Finally made level 50 on my City of Heroes Character. Only after a year and a half of playing have I finally reached the max level. Of course I would have gotten there sooner had we not started the Biggles group but that's ok. It wouldn't have been the same without the Biggles.

Took a lil screenie of me leveling up. Thanks to all who have helped me get this far!

Frosty the...

No not snowman. Frosty the winterfairy has visited my yard. Everything is covered in a thick frost. I took a few pics with my old camera cuz it does macro better than my new one. I still gotta get a macro lense for the new cam. Anywho, I posted up the pics I just took on my flickr account. Which I just upgraded to a pro account so I can make more sets. Click the pic below to see the set.

beginning to look a lot like Christmas

I don't usually decorate much for Christmas but one day last week I decided to get out all my Christmas decorations and put them all up in the house. I haven't put up any lights other than my spirally green and blue christmas tree. Don't know what made us do it but Doug and I decided to get a Christmas tree, a real one! I think the last time I put up a Christmas tree was back when I was married, maybe 5 years or so. Doug says he hasn't put one up in like 20 years, so he was definitely do. We took Doug's truck to the Safeway lot a few blocks away and bought a $30 Douglas fir from the Boy Scouts. We brought over all my decorations and lights and got it all setup and lookin pretty in no time. I took a few pics and put some up on Flickr. I've also organized my Flickr account into a couple different sets. I uploaded some of my fav pics over the past couple years and put them in a set. I also have a set for my panoramic pics and then one for some pics I've taken with my new cam so far. Christmasy ones are in that last set.

New Cam has arrived

Woo I got my new cam but I haven't been able to take any new pics with it yet cuz the batteries take for freakin' evar to charge. It is pretty sweet looking though. Can't wait to try it out. I got the 40-150mm and 14-45mm lenses. I'd really like to take a class and learn how to use all this fancy shmancy stuff properly. I ended up going home early today cuz it was snowing like crazy at work. I come home in hopes I'll get here before FedEx man. Well didn't really matter cuz Mr. FedEx man didn't get here till almost 7:00. It appears they would have just left it on the doorstep anyway. I thought they made you sign for stuff. Kind of a pricey item to just leave on the doorstep. Oh well I was home and I'm happy. Got a couple of other packages in the mail. Early Christmas presents from my parents. I was told to not open till Christmas so I have two big boxes in my living room begging to be opened. Must resist opening. Here's a pic of my new toy:

I want my camera!

I thought I hated USPS and UPS until I tried dealing with FedEx. They might be the worst. My new camera was out for delivery yesterday so I stayed home from work so I could be there to sign for it. Well it turns out they needed extra time because it's a "rural delivery". So the status is out for delivery again today. I called Fedex to see if they can hold it so I could come pick it up tomorrow or saturday. They said ok sure we'll hold it at the Burlington which is over an hour drive one way. I didn't realize it was that far when I told them to hold it. After I found out where this place was I called back asking if they can hold it in Bothell instead which is where Doug lives and would be much easier for me to get to. Well this other person that I talked to said that they couldn't hold it at all. I'm like what? I just talked to someone and they said they could hold it in Burlington. They say sorry we can't hold it. *sigh* so I asked if they can redeliver it on tuesday (my work from home day) They said they can put in a request but they can't guarantee that it will be. wtf? So who knows if I will ever get my package. Stoopid FedEx!

Victim of Fraud

It appears after receiving my annual free credit report today that I am the victim of fraud. There were two items on my credit report that I have nothing to do with. And one of these items shows up in only one of the three so if you get your credit report I suggest getting it from more than just one because they don't all say the same. One of them even had my wrong current address, which was reported by one of these fraud accounts. The first one that appeared only in the Experian report is a $49 collection from Taco Bell in Great Falls, Montana. Who the hell spends $49 at Taco Bell is what I want to know. It was sent to Check Patrol of Montana at the beginning of the year. I haven't even been to Montana this year. The other account is from Missoula Federal Credit Union which has a $323 overdrawn balance that was sent to Northwest Collectors and was updated as recently as last month. I am calling all these credit report places and issuing disputes. When I talked to Experian they sent me to the fraud dept and they had to issue a special dispute. When I talked to TransUnion they just submitted a regular dispute. I haven't tried calling Equifax yet but I should probably call them too. They also suggested I call the creditors as well. I've been on a training thing all day so haven't been able to complete all my phone calls yet.

If you haven't gotten your free annual credit report I suggest you do. You could be a victim of fraud:

Last night I decided to start a Flickr account. I can put my pics on my webserver so why should I get a Flickr account you ask? Hmm good question, I don't really have a good answer to that question. Everyone else is doing it so why not? I will still post pics on my web server. I will just post a couple on flickr every now and then, just my favorite ones. I posted up a couple that I took over the past Thanksgiving weekend. Had dinner with about 25 people at a friends place which is where the hula hooping pic is from and Doug and I went to the Harbor Steps in Seattle and walked around and took some pics. Here's the URL:

New Toy

I bought myself a Christmas present today and it's already been shipped. I ordered a new digital camera today. It'll be my first SLR type camera. In case you don't know that's the kind of camera that you buy various lenses for it. You can buy just the body and buy the lenses separate or you can buy a package that comes with lenses. I got the two lense package. Doug recently bought one and it's pretty sweet so I decided I have to have one too. I got the Olympus E-500 My old camera is also an Olympus which I love. I am still going to keep it for my underwater diving pics and will probably take it to Burningman again this year. The underwater housing I have for it works pretty well in the dust storms.

The day of bad news

Though none of this news is really directly related to me but I have heard a lot of bad news in other peoples lives that I know today. 3 to be exact.

1) vanpool driver's mom fell out of bed and is in the hospital
2) my ex-director from work's mom died in a car accident
3) some huge family emergency happened with my hair stylist which has caused me to have to cancel my hair appt for the 2nd time. From the msg I received it sounded like she was not coming back to work but I have yet to get a hold of these people to find out what is going on.

What's next?

more candle scents

I'm on a blog posting roll now I just can't stop!

I've got sooo many scents now that I have really got to get on the ball and make bunches of candles. Everyone is getting candles for Christmas this year. I realized I didn't have any yellow dye. I have some lemon scent and you can't make lemon candles without yellow dye so... I decided to go online and get some. Well just to buy some yellow dye from my favorite dye selling place had the shipping cost more than the dye so I had to bye some more stuff to make the shipping worth it so what did I do? Bought more scents. Here are my new ones: Pumpkin Thyme, Sandalwood Amber, Cinnamon Spice, Vanilla, Rosemary, Fresh Raspberry (have used this one before and loved it), Cinnamon Bayberry (might be my favorite new scent)

I did it...

I bought CoV... Are y'all happy now?

Spritz Cookies

It is amazing to me how many people don't know what a spritz cookie is. My mom used to make these all the time when I was growing up and we used to have fun helping too. Doug and I went to a dance on Saturday night and people always bring stuff to munch on. I came up with the idea to make some spritz cookies. I have a cookie press that I think I got at a garage sale many many years ago and have only used maybe twice since I've owned it. So I got it out and dusted it off and cookies we made. We made a mess and had some fun doing it too. I brought some to work and have been munching on them this morning. A couple people at work asked me what a spritz cookie was. What's wrong with these people? Are they also called something else that people would know them by?

Work Responsibilities

I found out yesterday that I would be taking over the Southeast Region engineering from one of the guys that got laid off. I'm so not looking forward to this. Not just because it means more work to the great amount of work I already have but because this guy is so unorganized and doesn't follow processes that I'm going to probably have to spend months cleaning up this engineering so I can work with it. Also it means more conference calls. In fact I just got sent one this morning a few mins after the mtg started. I talked to this guy yesterday to go over stuff and he didn't mention anything about any other conf calls other than the weekly region one which I could handle but I don't know how many other calls I'm going to have to start getting on now. I just really do not want to. He was actually going to give this region to one of our new contractors but he said it would look better if a Full Time Employee had the region rather than a contractor and I was the only FTE in my group that didn't have a region so here I am. His last day is supposed to be some time beginning of December so I'm starting to take over some of his stuff. I will get some help from the contractor but I'll be the primary engineer. Ugh I need a new job.

Today's Ortho Appt

I went in for another ortho appt. The space between my teeth is almost completely closed up now. I'm guessing it should be completely closed by my next regular appt. Today's appointment didn't go as smoothly as I would have hoped. While doing something with my wires one of my brackets came loose. I should have just stayed and had them fix it right there but I had a mtg to call into and I don't think I would have gotten back in time for it if I had stayed for them to fix it. Turns out I wouldn't have missed much. Oh well. So I had to schedule an appointment for tomorrow to go in and have it fixed. It's supposed to take 30 mins to fix :( I'm definitely taking some advil before this appointment. My teeth will probably be a bit sore from today's tightening already and they will have to re-tighten them tomorrow in order to secure the band back on so it will not be a very fun appointment. Oh and also they did some funky stuff on my wires this time so now I can't even fit the elastics on. They didn't say I could stop wearing them so I need to talk to them about that at my appointment tomorrow too. For all those curious I went with light green this time and went back to having clear on top.

Joygantic Halloween Party

I'm not sure how many people were at this thing but it sure seemed like a lot. There were lots of costumes and lots of fun to be had. If there was a best costume contest I think this guy dressed up as DeLay would have won. Not even sure who that was. There were lots of people I knew and lots I didn't too. There were many people I hadn't seen for a long time. A lot of couples had matching costumes but this time Doug and I didn't end up matching. We had kind of last minute costumes that we put together.

Twas a BUSY weekend

Lots of pics to share from this weekend in case you're interested. Was non stop busyness.

Saturday: Rat City Roller Girls Derby Final Was our first Roller Derby. It seemed we always had other plans for every bout this year. Was glad to have finally gotten to see one. We had ring side seats for most of the bouts and got some good closeup pics. Borrowed someone's external flash and used it on my digital cam for a few shots. I gotta get me one of them things!

Sunday: Seattle Tour Brother and his girlfriend came to visit for a few days. Doug and I took them around town and did all the touristy things. Walked around Seattle Center and went to the top of the Space Needle and of course Pike Place Market. That was about all we had time for because Doug and I had a Seahawks vs Texans football game to go to and the Seahawks kicked some butt.

Monday: Took the day off from work and hung out with brother and his girlfriend some more. We went to the Lizard Museum by my house. We also went back to Seattle, well actually Ballard so my brother can get my dad some of his favorite Danish cheese (Esrom). Also stopped and picked up Doug's bday present. Also drove around trying to find some hobby shops for my brother. He wanted to check out some RC cars. We ended up not finding any hobby shops that carried them. We went to what is supposed to be the biggest hobby shop in the Northwest and they didn't carry em. We went to another place in Lynwood that we found in the phone book and turned out the place wasn't even there anymore. So then we went to the mall and walked around for a while. After that we went to Doug's and had dinner at Gallo de Oro near Doug's place.

Tuesday: Worked from home, watched a movie, made dinner, soaked in Hot Tub

Wednesday: Went back to work, brother went back home. Life goes on.

No Granite Conference this year

Getting travel approved in this company is harder than ever. I've been going to this Granite User Conference every year since we started using this product. Well except this year. I got my manager's approval and my manager's manager's approval but that's as far as it got. My managers could not come up with enough "business" justification to push this through to the directors. It was going to be in Orlando this year. *sigh* oh well. I've decided I don't want to apply for any of the positions that are opening up on that other team. They are down to 3 people on the team and only one of which is local and he is not smart. I hate working with idiots. I updated my resume on Monster last week and am keeping my eyes/ears open for something else.

Daniel's Broiler

This past weekend Doug and I went to Daniel's Broiler in Seattle. I got a $150 gift certificate from work and decided to go out and spend it this weekend. And guess what we spent every bit of it and then some. It's supposedly the 3rd best steak house in Seattle competing against Ruth's Chris and the Metropolitan. It was quite yummy. Though I would say it was probably the 2nd best steak I've ever had. I got my steak medium well but I think medium might have been a better choice. Doug even got a medium steak but it looked more medium well to us. We got there a little early and had a drink in the bar (it was happy hour). Doug got the clam chowder and I got a caesar salad. both of which were very good. Might be the best ceasar salad I ever had. I wanted to save room for the main course so I didn't eat quite all of the salad. We also got a side of asparagas with our dinner. We both prefer the really skinny asparagus but this was the fat asparagus. It was ok, nothing special. We should have asked if it was the skinny or fat asparagus. They would probably have looked at us funny. They have a variety of sauces you can order on the side for your steak. I got a peppercorn sauce and Doug got the bleu cheese sauce. Both were very good. I actually liked the bleu cheese one better. I take after my dad in that taste. This place supposedly is the only steakhouse in Seattle that serves USDA prime steak. We both had a couple of glasses of wine and no dessert. We spent all of the gift certificate and had to add even more for the tip. I think that was the most expensive dinner I had ever had.

I don't think I've posted about work in a while so here goes. The company is going through another wave of layoffs and so far my team hasn't really been directly affected by the layoffs. Well this time we were hit hard. We lost 3 people in my group the last couple days. Ouch that's gonna hurt. Actually I think they made pretty good decisions on who to lay off this time. Last time we had a round of layoffs I wasn't too thrilled with the choices that were made but this time they did good. It's always bad to lose people especially when we are so busy, but at least they chose well. One person they laid off is the person that used to be my manager and is now a fellow engineer. He's been waiting/hoping to get laid off for some time now so he's happy to have gotten his notice. Another gal who was doing process improvement stuff seemed kind of bored with what she was doing and was talked into getting into an engineering role which she didn't seem too thrilled about and I don't think she would have done very well at it so she was a good choice to let go. I don't think she's too dissapointed. The other person is our Atlanta person who chose not to put anything into our database and was the most unorganized person I know.

Most of the people in our group did the engineering for a specific region of the country. except for a couple of people who were just helping other people out with their regions or doing other things like myself. The atlanta person that was let go had the Southeast region. So I think I'm probably the logical choice of people to take over the region I'm just really not looking forward to that. His recordkeeping is such a mess I don't want to have to fix it. We do have two new contractors though so I suppose there's a chance that one of them might take on that region. We have a staff meeting tomorrow so maybe we will find out more. The people that were let go supposedly get 60 days notice so they are supposed to be working for 60 days and then after that their severence package kicks in. I have heard of some people who just leave when they get their notice and don't stick around for 60 days so it will be interesting to see what happens with the people that got notices. I know one of them plans on taking a lot of sick leave between now and 60 days. 3 people is a lot to lose in one group at one time. We will be down to 7 people. hmm maybe they'll hire us some more contractors...

Another Braces Update

Teeth are still moving around. The gap where they pulled teeth from the top is almost closed up. Until the space closes completely I've been having to wear elastic bands from the top to the back bottom teeth to get the teeth to move faster. Could be a month or two more then we'll see what plans they have for me. I just got my braces tightened yesterday and decided to go with halloween colors this time. I've always gotten clear bands on top except for this time. I've got black on top and orange on bottom. Though this orange they have looks orange in the lighting at the ortho office but when I look at em outside of there they look pink. My next appointment is actually on Halloween so I'll have to think of what colors to get for that appointment. So I finally took some more pics and added them to my braces progress page. This will be the 3rd set of pics I've taken. Not a whole lot of movement going on with my bottom teeth but the top ones have moved a bit since my last pics. Check em out if you want:

New job???

Maybe... We'll see. Gee I sure have been posting on here a lot lately.

Doug just mentioned my manager's manager is hiring a couple engineers in this group he is taking management over since the manager has recently flown the coop. A manager that I despised and wouldn't have worked for because he was an idiot. So I sent an email to him asking about the positions and asking if he was going to be the permanent manager of the group or not. Turns out Doug is wanting to apply for the position too. :o That could be interesting... Competing for the same job or maybe both getting the job. Might be weird being on the same team. A lot of the work I do now is stuff that team should be doing anyway. I made that point in my email. I wouldn't be too dissapointed if I didn't get it, doesn't hurt to try though. Would be nice to have a little more hands on job and would probably include some traveling which would be nice for a change.

Just got a reply to my email. Says he'd be open to me applying and he still doesn't know if he's going to permanently replace the old manager or not. I could deal with him as a manager, if they get someone else to manage the team, I'm not sure... It really makes a big different in your job who your manager is.

Recipe Help!

I got this monster zucchini from a guy at work today and I'm going to make some zucchini bread with it, maybe a couple loaves. I am looking for a good recipe so if you have one please send it my way!

Sometimes my IPOD ticks me off... Last time I used it I downloaded some IPOD auto update software thing for it. So when I went to plug it in yesterday to put some music on it it updated the software. What exactly the update did I have no clue, would be nice if it said. I'm sure it's listed somewhere but I don't want to have to search for it. so my software is all downloaded. But what's this? It says for the update to be complete I have to plug it into my power source. wth? I keep my power source at work so I couldn't plug it in from home. I couldn't add any more songs to it until I plugged it in. So I had to wait till I got to work to plug it in and didn't get to put the new songs on it that I wanted to yesterday. *growl*

Haven't made any candles lately despite the mounds of candle scent my mom got me for my birthday... Doug got me some interesting scent the other day. Black Pepper scent it was. I do love my black pepper. mmm So anyway I burned some of the oil in my pot pourri pot and decided to make a candle or two out of the rest of it. I just happened to have some black candle dye that I don't think I had used yet so figured it would be perfect for black pepper candles. Who knew black looks a lot like green. They turned out nothing like black. Oh well the green is kinda perdy.

Slap Your Co-worker Day!

Slap Your Co-Worker Day is Coming!!

Tomorrow is the official Slap Your Irritating Co-workers Holiday: Do you have a co-worker who talks nonstop about nothing, working your last nerve with tedious and boring details that you don't give a damn about? Do you have a co-worker who ALWAYS screws up stuff creating MORE work for you? Do you have a co-worker who kisses so much booty, you can look in their mouth and see what your boss had for lunch? Do you have a co-worker who is SOOO obnoxious, when he/she enters a room, everyone else clears it? Well, on behalf of Ike Turner, I am so very very glad to officially announce tomorrow as SLAP YOUR IRRITATING CO-WORKER DAY! There are the rules you must follow:

* You can only slap one person per hour - no more.

* You can slap the same person again if they irritate you again in the same day.

* You are allowed to hold someone down as other co-workers take their turns slapping the irritant.

* No weapons are allowed...other than going upside somebody's head with a stapler or a hole-puncher.

* CURSING IS MANDATORY! After you have slapped the recipient, your "assault" must be followed with something like "cause I'm sick of your stupid-a$$ always messing up stuff!"

* If questioned by a supervisor [or police, if the supervisor is the irritant], you are allowed to LIE, LIE, LIE! Now, study the rules, break out your list of folks that you want to slap the living day lights out of and get to slapping.....and have a great day

I *heart* venders

First it was Tekelec now it is Agilent. Tonight will be the second dinner cruise (booze cruise)I've been on in the past month. Gotta like that. This one is actually supposed to be our "team building" event. Cingular sure has a funny idea of what team building is. The team building events we had back when we were ATT Wireless were quite different. We went on a couple overnight rafting trips back in the day which were fun and interesting. It was fun to see who would get the most drunk. A few people are getting together to go to "the owl" aka Hooters before the cruise. They got together last time too. They invite Doug but not me. I guess they think I'll be offended or something. So we went to the owl last time. They didn't know I was coming till I showed up and they seemed kind of shocked. I think we are going to pass this time and just wait for the free booze on the cruise.

Huckleberry Muffins

I just ate a huckleberry muffin straight from the oven. yummers! I think I'll bring a couple to work tomorrow. Gotta save some for Doug too. I still have huckleberries left. I might make some more muffins... Here's a pic!

Huckleberry picking

Doug and I decided to go on a hike on Monday near my house. It's amazing how many trails there are around where I live and I only have been going on one hike a year it seems. It really is a blessing to live so close to these places. I definitely need to get out more. We decided to go to Tonga Ridge/Mt Sawyer Tonga Ridge is a well traveled trail and maintained by the park and recreation. The trail to Mt Sawyer goes off from the Tonga Ridge Trail, but isn't maintained and there are apparently no trail maps for it. The Ranger says people just decided to make a trail there. We had to buy a $5 day pass to go there and fill out a registration form at the trailhead. The place is only about 35 miles from my house. There weren't a whole lot of people on the trail but there were a few, most of them huckleberry picking. There were even less on the Mt Sawyer trail. When we got to the top we were the only ones there, it as nice. On the way back down we only saw one couple going up. We saw a lot more when we got back to the main trail. Brought back a little over a pound of huckleberries and am planning on making some muffins with them. In case you don't know, a huckleberry is basically a mountain blueberry. They are yummy! I used to go picking them in Montana and try to go out every fall around here and pick some too, though this is the first time I've done it in the past couple of years.

New Orleans Blog

I came across this blog the other day and read it for a while last night. However I can't get to it at work :( He has a webcam too but can't really see much from it. I thought it was an interesting read. You get to hear what's really going on that you don't hear from the media.

You know you're getting old when....

You find your first gray hair! I was wondering when it would happen but I didn't think it would happen so soon. :( You can bet I plucked that sucker as soon as I found it. It's not really true that if you pluck one 10 more will come back in it's place is it??

coffee coffee coffee

I think I'm going to be hyper today! I usually limit myself to one latte per week because I have better things to spend my money on. I would drink it every day if it wasn't so darn expensive. So I decided today would be the day to get my latte this week. Since I accidentally set my alarm to PM instead of AM I didn't get up in time for my vanpool Doh! I missed it the day before too cuz I forgot to reset my alarm. I'm not on a very good roll this week. So I drank my Gingerbread latte. Yeah I know those are only usually available around Christmas time but I found a place that still has some Gingerbread so there. A few mins after I finished my latte my boss asked if he could buy me a latte at Starbucks. So I said yes. How could I refuse?? It should be here any minute!

Free Parking

Last weekend Doug and I went to a Cold Play concert at the worst located place you could have a concert. It takes about 2 hours to get to though it should only take 1. The roads get so backed up with all the concert traffic and lights on every other block don't help matters. Anyway so we drive out there, on the way there we hear some guy on the radio saying that people should just go home if they're going to the concert cuz the parking lot is backed up for an hour and a half or something. Great, wonderful... We continue on we see the premier parking and at the last minute decide to pay the $20 to park in the premier parking to not have to wait an hour and a half to get into the general parking. I really doubt the line was an hour and a half long but we went for it anyway. We continue on and see a couple signs on the way in saying that the lot is full and only prepaid parking people can park in the lot. Great! Now what? We can't turn around it's a one lane of cars all the way in. They direct us to a parking spot and we're like ok now what? No one was around to take any money, didn't see anyone with stickers in their windows to show they had paid for parking so screw it we went to the concert without paying for parking and left the concert without paying. What a deal! We've vowed to never go to that venue again. I hates it! It's an outdoor stage and we weren't even sitting under the roof where all the seats are. We got tickets in the grass a mile away from the stage. Oh well, it wasn't too bad there were big jumbo tron screens to watch the concert from. When they played Yellow they droped down a bunch of huge yellow balloons from the ceiling and people were bouncing em all around it was pretty kewl looking. None of them made it back to the grass for us to play with though :(

My technologically challenged parents

They have come a long way I must admit in the past few years. They actually have a computer and they use it quite frequenty. My dad has become an ebay junky and I can never get a hold of them on the phone anymore because he's always on the internet. You'd think after two years they would know about certain things.

My parents had just gotten home after taking a few weeks off to drive to CO and visit my mom's family. They called me upon their return and brought to my attention a strange problem they were having with their computer. They really didn't know what was causing this problem and thought I might be able to come up with a solution. Oh I came up with a solution alright.

mom: we're having this weird problem with our email, I don't know what's wrong with it.
me: what seems to be the problem?
mom: well we didn't get any email at all while we were gone.
me: hmm I guess no one likes you (didn't really say that I just said oh? were you expecting some?)
mom: well we didn't have any new mail when we got home but then all of a sudden it just appeared.
me: smacks head and giggles. Were you connected to the internet while you were gone?
mom: no
me: were you connected to the internet when all your mail suddenly appeared?
mom: yes
me: did you know you have to be connected to the internet to get your emails?
mom: really? no I didn't know that let me tell your dad
hear mom telling dad that you have to be connected to the internet to get email and him replying with oh!

I could not believe they didn't know this after two years of using email and the internet. It gave me a good laugh.

Leaving for a few days

Leaving for Colorado tomorrow afternoon to visit my Grandmother who I have'nt seen in probably at least 14 years. Meeting parents at the AP in Denver and will drive to Pueblo. They left from Montana on Sunday and should be there by now. I will be returning on Sunday afternoon. Debating whether to bring my laptop or not. Not sure if there will be any internet that I could get on over there.

Stoopid thing #2

Damn those aquarium tubes! You know those big tubes you put the filters on. Was trying to cut one in half last night using an ummm bread knife. Well it kind of looked like a saw... why not? Well uh remind me not to do that again. knife slipped and sliced my left index finger. Funny thing is I think I've cut my finger cutting one of those before. I decided to go to the ER it was bleeding quite good. Lucky thing is I didn't have to have stitches! Woo They put some skin super glue on it instead called Dermabond. The worst part was when they cleaned it sqirting saline and iodine in the wound making it bleed again. Oww I don't know how many times they squirted it but it was painful. still have the bandage on it and am afraid to take it off. They said I could take it off today so I will do that later. I did get my 10 gal aquarium all set up though. I set it up for my baby platies that have been couped up in a little baby saver for months and are still too small to go in the 29 gal. I think they will like their new home will put them in today.

stoopidest thing I did today

So I noticed there were some little bugs around my plants at work and I have some bug killer at home that I brought into work on Monday to kill the little critters. I sprayed the plants monday and looked at them today and still saw some. So I looked in my file cabinet and I got the spray out and sprayed them some more. Now what I didn't mention is that I also have a similar looking spray bottle in my file cabinet that is desk cleaner. Guess what I did? Yep my plants are now squeaky clean! I'm hoping it doesn't kill em :o If it does oh well I'm going plant shopping this weekend for some office plants for her new office and I plan on buying a few more for my cube. Boy I felt stupid! Took me a while to realize it too. I blame it on my stressful day of working on escalated work orders that belonged to everyone else in my group but my own.

Good Deed of the Day

Well actually it was yesterday, but it doesn't really matter...

After work I drove over to Doug's for date night. I was running a little late leaving work because a manager in a different department than mine hailed me down while I was packing up my computer to ask me to show him how to create a ticket to send to operations. Why he didn't ask someone in his own group I don't know. People seem to come to me from far and wide to ask me stoopid questions that anyone could answer. So I left about 15 minutes later than planned, stopped at the 76 station which was selling gas at the good price of 2.43/gal for the cheap stuff. The were all out of the premium gas per the note on every gas kiosk thingy. I had heard there was a pipeline closure some place and that some of the 76 stations around town didn't have gas. This one must have been one of the ones affected. Didn't really matter to me cuz I always get the cheap stuff. Well except for that one time I tried it to see if it made a difference and it didn't so I haven't since then. After I got gas I drove to Doug's condo saw an old lady walking along very slowly as I pulled up. Turned the engine off. got my crap together. opened my car door. looked at the old lady who was now face down on the ground. Did I hit her with my door when I opened it? I bet that's what you're thinking. No of course I didn't do that! How could you think something like that? She was a few feet behind where my door opened. I kind of stood there for a second. I walked over to her and sock puppet theatre time!

Me: Are you ok?
Old Lady: mumbling yeah I'm fine
Me: Are you sure?
Old Lady: Yeah I just tripped on the sidewalk back there

ok wait I need to tell you what she looked like. When I walked over to talk to her and she looked up at me her face was covered in blood it was dripping down her face all over her clothes and the sidewalk.

Me: Want me to call someone?
Old Lady: No that's ok
Me: do you live near here?
Old Lady: No not really. I live by the QFC (near the gas station where I was just at)
Me: Can I give you a ride home?
Old Lady: ok but I dont want to get blood all over your car.
Me: Looking for my keys where did they go? In my purse? No Did I lock them in my car? Hmm don't see em. Crap!
Me: get my phone out called doug.
Doug: Hello? Where are you?
Me: I'm outside your condo can you bring your copy of my car keys and a towel or something a lady fell out here and is bleeding all over and I'm gonna give her a ride home.
Doug: uh ok I'll be right out
Me: Oh there's my keys never mind about the keys!

They were on the ground where I dropped my stuff as I helped her stand up. She must have been at least 80 years old. She claimed she was walking to the post office. She didn't quite make it. Kinda far for an old woman like that to be walking by herself. Doug came out with the towel and she bled all over it I gave her a ride to near the gas station she wouldn't tell me exactly where she lived and asked me to drop her off right there. Hopefully she made it home safely. She gave the towel back and it's now in Doug's washer being washed who knows how many times. I'm betting he ends up throwing it out. :) I think this was the first time I've ever had someone else's blood on me!

What I learned today

That it's really messy trying to dip a Hot and Spicey made with Tabasco Cheez-it in a mostly empty jar of PB Loco. I hope people didn't notice me licking my fingers as they were walking by my window cube. They probably thought I was eating my hand. Mmm finger licking good stuff.

Best Tiramisu in Seattle?

I still remember the first time I tried Tiramisu it was at Buca Di Peppo on Valentines Day maybe 5 years ago. It was a girls night out cuz most of them were single and apparently didn't have dates and my at the time husband was in Ohio looking for a job that he never found. Anyway so I tried this stuff and I was in love. It was soo dang good. So now every time I go to a restaurant that has tiramisu on the menu I have to have some. I have to admit there have been some pretty bad tiramisu's out there. I always compared them to the one I had at Buca's because it was my first and because it was the best I had until this past weekend. I went to a Birthday dinner at the Cellar Bistro. We had a four course meal. We had several different appetizers and I had the Florentine Salad, Linguini Putanesca (which still isn't as good as the Putanesca Cafe Venus used to have but doesn't have anymore :(), lots of different bottles of wine were drunk, and of course the Tiramusu. I've tried quite a few Tiramisu's in the past few years. Javvy did pretty well at his first attempt at Tiramisu. It looks like it would be hard to make and he confirmed that. It turned out great though.

Also went to a BBQ this weekend where I had close to the best potato salad evar. It was more like a mashed potato salad. It was different but good cuz I love mashed tatos! Best potato salad evar has to be Larry's Market Blue Potato Salad. They put blue cheese in it and it is very yummy! I have to admit I make a pretty good potato salad too. I haven't even made any this year! I need to get on it.

Braces update

No new pics in this post I'll probably take another set of pics in another month or two to share. Went to my Orth on Wed. It was supposed to be an appt to just change out the bands like we have been doing the past couple of visits. The Doc usually looks at the progress every 3rd visit. This was the 2nd visit but he happened to be hanging around and so he looked at my progress and made a few suggestions so I was in for more than just a band changing.

1 - I had the bottom wire changed out to a thicker one. Not too bad there.
2 - Have to start wearing elastics (rubber bands)

I have to wear elastics that go from #3 tooth on top to #7 tooth on bottom. In case you don't know what the #'s mean, they count your teeth from front to back so your two front teeth are #1 and then you count back from there. #7 is my last two teeth on the bottom. That's quite a long stretch for this little rubber band they give you. My teeth hurt so bad the next day I could barely brush my teeth with my electric tooth brush. They are getting better though. These things are supposed to help my bite I guess. I might have to wear em for a few months. They are quite annoying. I usually take them out when I eat and clean my teeth and have to change em out every couple days because the bands stretch out after you wear em for a while.

Color of the month is light orange in case you were wondering what color bands I'm sporting this time. I'm well on my way to trying every color. So far I've tried dark purple, teal, bright pink, black, red, light purple, and light orange.

Weekend Recap

-Had way too spicey Indian food at the Clay Oven located basically in a gas station but it is really good!
-Watched The Aviator It was a LONG movie that we've been putting off watching since the end of May. It wasn't bad, but didn't think it was that great either. Not much of a Leo fan...
-Watched Pieces of April, recommended by my netflix friends MooCow and Penelope Thought it was a cute movie. Was pretty short, which isn't a bad thing.
-Was one of 6.9 million people that bought the new Harry Potter book. I know several people that have already finished it. I'm a slow reader however and am only on Chapter 4. It'll probly take me a few weeks to read. I only read a chapter or two at a time. And I'm not a speed reader like Doug and Jess who have already finished it.
-Went to Golden Gardens for a BBQ with a gang I haven't seen for a while, most of them I met at Burningman last year or the year before.

Went to my first live soccer (futbol) game evar this weekend. Went with Doug and his parents. It was the Men's USA team vs Canada's Men's team. I guess it's the Gold Cup or something. I don't really know a whole lot about the sport. Though my dad has always been a big fan of it and we used to watch it when we were kids. We even played a few times with my dad back in the day. Can't really picture him doing that now a days. We never played it in school or had any local teams so the only time we got to see it was when it was on tv and that didn't seem to be very often. We were wanting to see a game while we were in Peru but they weren't playing any of the days we were in Lima so we missed out. Luckily I found out they were playing a few games in Seattle at the new Qwest field. This was the first time I had been to the new stadium as well. Never made it to a Seahawks game last year. It was fun. During half time we went to get some beverages.

It turns out they stop selling alcohol at the end of the halftime. We got in line just in time. We were the last ones served. Everyone else in line was out of luck. Felt bad for em but rulz is rulz. The people that were serving were absolute idiots! It was this consession stand out in the middle of the walkway and there were lines on either side of it. They had coolers of bottled beer, wine, etc. or you can get a draft beer which is a bit more. Since I don't like beer I opted for a wine. It's one of them teenie little bottles. So I asked the chick for wine. I had to say it about 10 times before she figured out what I said then she said sorry we don't have wine. I looked at the guy next to her then down at the cooler with the wine bottles in it and said yes you do. The guy confirmed yes we have wine. ok so I want a white wine. she goes to the cooler grabs a bottle of red and I shake my head and say white about 10 more times. I think she was partially deaf or something. Then says I dont think we have white. I roll my eyes and look at the cooler and say yes you do. She asks the guy where's the white wine he points at the cooler and she gets the bottle. She seems to have trouble opening it and the guy next to her helps her out. btw, the guy next to her is the change guy. I think it would have been more successful if he just served the drinks and did the change because she was a moron. I finally had my wine and paid $6.50 for it. Doug and his dad got their beers and we were on our way. We got back just in time for the next half of the game to start.

We ended up scoring twice in the last half and I was waiting for the guy to say SCOOOORE! but he never did :( I guess only radio and tv announcers do that. Bummer. After the game we went and pigged out on Pizza. I've got pics up from the game.

My Bday

So my 30th bday came and went. Goodbye 20's, hello 30's. I must say it's hard to believe my 20's are gone. They were good. Hopefully my 30's will be just as good if not better. I went to Portland to spend my bday with my friend Trina from High School. We share the same bday and both turned 30 on July 1 so she invited me out to her place for a girls night out and a bbq. We went out to a place called McFadden's and did some drinkin and dancin and had an overall good time till they closed at 2:00 am. I managed to not get drunk and not have a hangover the next day. One more drink might have done it. I can usually tell when my limit is and not go over it. Went out with about 6 other girls. Slept in late and had a bbq the next day. Also had my first professional massage. It was nice and relaxing. It was a swedish massage, I know there are a bunch of different kinds and I don't know what the difference is but I'd like to try some of them. Here's a couple pics from my Portland trip:

Got lots of goodies for my bday. I already mentioned the candle scents. Got a few other things from my family including a Logitech Laser mouse, 100 CDR's, photo printer, cashola, and a few other things I can't remember right now. I got Doug's present when I got back from Portland. I got a set of kitchen knives from my parents for Christmas last year that well sucked about as much as a set of kitchen knives can suck. I wanted a good set of knives, didn't have to be the best knives you can get but something decent that will actually cut something. Anyway I had complained about my christmas kitchen knives from my parents and Doug decided to get me some good knives. Actually they're not good they might be the best knives you can buy. They're these fancy Japanese knives that cut through anything like butter. They're called Shun knives made by Kershaw. These knives are the bees knees! I got a knife block with three knives, a sharpener, and scissors with room for more. Also got a Ken Onion Chef Knife that comes with it's own bamboo stand. It's the fanciest looking knife I've ever seen. I never thought I'd ever own a knife that fancy. I'm afraid to even use it.

candles galore

Good grief. I just got a package in the mail today from my mom for my bday. She sent me a buttload of candle scents. I dunno if I'll ever make enough candles to use it all. Here's a run down of all the scents I got from her.

Clove (YUM)
green tea
peppermint sugar
spicey apples and nuts
bayberry spice
sleigh ride (don't ask me, kinda pepperminty)
panana muvvin
linden blossom
preesion (no clue)
black cherry
fireside (smells kinda like soap *shrug*)
citrus dream
egyptian musk (smells like my grandpa!)
butter pecan

Good lord that's a lot of scents!

PB Loco for me

So I got my PB Loco and will be distributing it in my van this coming wed. I need to bring some crackers or something so everyone can taste eachother's. We have 3 diff ones to try. white choc, dark choc, and raspberry dark choc. I've only tried the dark choc one so the other's will be a new experience.

Jess already posted about this but I'm going to too. I can't help it if I've been too busy to post about it. So we got to Minnesota at 5:30 AM and woke Javvy up about 6:00 or so to let us in since our hotel checkin wasn't till 3:00. We hung out for a while then took a nap for a couple of hours. We went back to the hotel and took another nap for a couple hours. Yes we were tired, so what? We finally felt rested enough and were ready to go out and do something. Javvy was too busy getting ready for the BBQ so we got a hold of Jess and Ryan to see if they wanted to get together for dinner or something. We decided to go to The Mall of America since we were going to go there at some point while we were there anyway to go to PB Loco. We decided to have dinner first and went to Bubba Gumps, which was pretty good. Nathan, Jess's brother joined us as well. After dinner it was off to PB Loco to see what I could get. The Dark Choc is what most everyone in the VP wants. I was going to try to get a case for a discount but they said they don't do that. So I grab a few... white choc, rasp dark choc, dark choc... wait where's the dark choc? there's shelves and shelves of pb there's got to be some dark choc. one jar! one jar is all I found! how can that be? I was worried. I asked the clerk if there was anymore. She looked doubtful but said she would check. She brought out about 6 more jars that she had found in the back and I told her I'd take them all. Jess bought one too. Whew that should be enough to last me a little while.

I actually emailed them weeks before the trip to see if they sold by the case and gave any discounts. No one ever responded.. until today! The day after I get back from the trip... here's what they said:

Hi Paula,

I'm sorry that we didn't get back to you in a more timely manner. Obviously
you've already come and gone, but for what it's worth, we don't usually
offer a discount unless a person is ordering at least 5 cases. We're so
glad you're hooked, though, and hope that you were able to pick up a few
jars on your visit here. If you have a SuperTarget near you, you can find
our Jungle Banana and our Raspberry Dark Chocolate varieties there for

I hope that helps. Thanks again for being a valued P.B.Loco customer!

PB Cheers,

Gee thanks, at least they wrote back... Now I gotta find a Super Target!

BBQ Pichurs are up!

Had a great time! Was fun meeting a bunch of people and seeing Javvy again. Will have to do it again next year :D

I'd write more but I'm crazy busy at work.

So check them out here!

ok you gotta watch this
Click on the "Link" at the bottom of the pic. it's this year's censorship in review. Shows a bunch of censored stuff that is pretty crazy.

Biggles in CoH?

If you are reading this and don't play CoH, move along, nothing to see here.

I said move along!

So those of you who know about the Biggles, I think it would be kewl to make some Biggles give them all the same outfit. I've seen other SG's with the same outfits on and I think it looks like fun. I remember back when we made Biggles on Darktide and had fun runnin' around, we should do that again. We would probably have to do this on a different server since I think most of the people in the group have their slots full already.

Let me know what you think about this idea.

Busy as hell

So, one of my co-workers is having some foot surgery and is going to be out of the office for three weeks. Guess who gets to do all her work while she's gone. You guessed it. That be me! Everyone in my group is so overworked as it is and now I'm twice as over worked as before. I might actually make some progress if I didn't keep having to go to frelling meetings all day every day. I had two meetings monday, three meetings yesterday, three today, and so far one long one scheduled for tomorrow. How is a person supposed to get any work done? How do you do it Jess? We have this Link Tracker spreadsheet that we are supposed to keep updated with statuses for all of our work orders. Well my co-worker hasn't been doing the best job of updating that. I don't really think anyone in our group has been doing a very good job of it because they're too busy trying to get the work done. I have about 45 orders that people are bugging me about and some of them I can't even find the orders for. I was happy just doing my work, taking on someone else's is the suq! I will need another vacation after these three weeks are over, if I make it through.

Looking forward to the little break I'm taking this weekend to Minnesota! Yay for BBQ's!

My gardens

Went out and took a few more pics in the yard. My roses are doing pretty well, even the one that I thought was dying/dead. It's got some new leaves and a few rose buds. One of the buds has bloomed and I got a pic of it. Veggies are doing pretty well for the most part. One of my peppers I think is dying and my cherry tomatos don't seem to be doing very well either but everything else looks pretty good. Here's a couple pics I took yesterday.

I'm comin to get you PB LOCO!

So after raving about PB LOCO in my vanpool a bunch of people want me to bring some back for them. So far I have 4 jars of dark choc and 1 jar of white choc to get. That's not counting my supply. I'm wondering if I could get a discount on a case of it. Jess, do you know? Doug says we should open a pbloco store here. :)

Updated template

So, after looking at Serra's new digs, I decided to make some updates to mine to make it a little more original. I changed the colors around a bit and I took out the title graphic thing they had and put one of my own. I used one of the panoramic pics I took when we were in Peru. I think a few little changes makes it look a lot better. Hope everyone likes it!

I can't believe how many people are leaving my company in the last month... Things since we were bought out by the orange people have gotten so hectic and disorganized that people are fleeing like bats. Do bats flee? Anyway I just heard in the last two days that at least 5 people are leaving that are under my director. My manager is now an engineer and someone else is taking over his position as manager. This will be only my 3rd manager since being with the company (6 years). My last manager was my manager for about 5 years. That's practically unheard of but he was a great manager. I know our new manager only by face I don't really know much about him at all. I think your manager is the main thing that keeps you from staying or leaving your job. If he turns out not to be a good manager you can bet I will be out of here as fast as I can.

Deck Stuff

Some people asked about what I used on my deck so here it is.

To clean it I used Thompson's Waterseal Deck Wash and a scrub brush
To stain it I used Superdeck Transparent Stain (Natural)

Concert Crazy

Tis the season for going to concerts. There's a ton of bands that are playing in the Seattle area that I wanna see and they're all coming up soon. I'm sure there will probably be more added to the list as I find out about them coming.

6/17 - Eels
6/19 - Longwave
8/16 - Cold Play

Looking most forward to the Longwave concert. They're one of my fav band at the moment and they're playing in a small venue, which I have never been to before. It's going to be a dinner theatre type thing and going to be a few other people going as well. I've been to the venues the other concerts are at. Cold Play is playing way down south at a huge amphitheatre which is going to suck getting there and leaving there, but oh well.

My deck

My deck was way overdue for some maintenance. I've lived here for 4+ years and haven't done a dang thing with the deck. So I decided to clean it and stain it. I must say it looks quite nice when it's clean. I never knew it could look so nice. I still have more staining to do on other areas of the house. Like the fence and the entry to the front door. It wasn't too hard but dang it took forever. I had to actually scrub every inch of it with a brush because the dirt and moss was just caked on that wood. Here's some before and after pics!

After - Clean

After - Stained

I just noticed I got tagged by Serra, my first tagging.

Sometimes I do these, sometimes I don't. I think I'll do this one. Haven't seen it before.

For some reason, no one tags me for meme's...until now. Evilsciencechick at ...but mostly rants however, has done just that. So, here's my answers to the five-question book meme.

1) What is the total number of books I've owned?
It takes me forever to read a book. I don't usually throw them out after I read them though. And I never go to the library. I have a bookcase downstairs and in my computer room. I have novels as well as reference books and school books. I probably have no more than 50.

2) What is the last book I bought?
Last book I bought I think was Paul Theroux's collected stories. It's a bunch of short stories. He's a well known author that writes travel books. So, when I bought this I was expecting a bunch of short travel stories, but I was wrong. It wasn't anything like I expected. I've read 2 of the 50 or so short stories in the book. Not sure if I'll ever get around to reading the rest. It's kind of my backup book.

3) What is the last book I've read?
Well the book I'm reading now is called The Sex Lives of Cannibals by J. Maarten Troost. I know what you're thinking, but the book really isn't about sex or cannibals. It's a book about this couple that goes to some strange island in the south pacific and all the stuff they go through while there. It's actually pretty funny. Doug got it for me cuz I was looking for a travel book to read.

4) What are the 5 (plus) books that have meant a lot to me?
Hmm good question. I dunno if they really mean that much to me but I guess my fav books are: Lion Witch & Wardrobe, Johnathan Livingston Seagull, The Little Prince, Harry Potter, The Bible. Hmm most of these are these are kids books...

Extra credit question, 'What book would you wish to buy next?':
Will probably buy the next book in the Left Behind series called The Rising.

TAG! (5 people whose collections I want to pry into):
Not gonna bother with this one cuz I doubt anyone would actually do this or they already have.

My Resume

I had this voicemail when I got to work the other day. It was kinda funny. It was a guy calling and he works for Cingular, as do I. He had some questions about some equipment that we use. But the weird part is how he found me. He was searching the internet for info on CP800's. He apparently did not come up with much. He said the only thing he could find in his search for CP800 info was my resume! :O Apparently I have in my resume that I have mad CP800 skillz or something. I haven't really updated it in a while, not sure what's on it. I could look, but I'm too lazy. But I'm not too lazy to put a link to my resume on my blog. This equipment is a DACS that does T1 and DS0 crossconnects. The equipment has been owned by several different companies over the years and each one changes it's name. It was once called IMACS, CP800, 1518, and now it's apparently back to IMACS, I think there was another name too but I can't remember what it was. This guy probly could have found more info on these boxes if he knew all of it's alternate names. We have always called them CP800's though. I'm not sure why but that name seems to have stuck more than any of the others. I just thought it was funny how this guy found me. He musta saw that I work for Cingular on my resume and looked my number up in the global address book or Peoplesoft. SO the end of the story is that I gave him the info he wanted and he was a happy camper.

Look at them teeth move!

It's only been about 2 and a half months since I got my braces on and wow I can't believe how much they've moved already! If they continue to move as fast as they have been maybe I won't have to wear em for 2 whole years. That will be nice. I took another set of pics to show the progress. I think I will take a set of pics every couple months or so. It's kinda neat to see how far they've moved in such a short time. I still have my goth black bands on and they aren't coming off till June. Hmm what color should I do next? Maybe I'll go with red.

Deck Repairing

I know my deck is way over due for some maintenance. This week is looking to be a nice one so I think I'm going to do some work on it. For the 4 years or so that I've lived there I haven't really done anything to the deck. I've been doing some research to see what I need to do to get it back in shape. Looks like the first step will be to clean it. I'm gonna go to a hardware store after work today and look for some deck cleaner and either clean it tonight or more likely tomorrow. I'll decide if it needs any sanding while I'm cleaning it. Then after a few days of drying I'll slap on some water sealer or staining. Not really sure which is better to use. I've never done it before. One site had suggested Olympic Deck Cleaner for cleaning it and Cabot's Decking Stain. I'll see what they have I guess. I want something that's going to last a few years so I want to get a good one. I guess there's some you can buy that only are good for a year. I don't wanna have to do this every year. If anyone has suggestions let me know.

Peruvians are like Canadians

Okay I figure it's about time to start making some posts about our trip. One thing that we noticed is that Peruvians talk a lot like Canadians. You know how Canadians always say "ay" or "you know" after about everything they say. Well Peruvians also do this though they say "yah" after everything. They say it really fast too it's not a long yah. They say stuff like "it's cold out today, yah" or "you owe me 20 sole's yah" or if you say thank you they'll respond with "yah" instead of you're welcome or de nada which I think is what is spanish for you're welcome.

Pretty much everyone we talked to spoke spanish even if they knew English because Doug can speak spansih. I can understand it a bit but can't really speak much at all so I usually just smile and nod if someone says something to me in spanish. They just don't like speaking English. We had an "English speaking" guide when we went to see the Pisac ruins. We didn't plan on having a guide he was just there and asked if we wanted one so we said sure. He found out Doug spoke spanish and knew I didn't but he spoke spanish anyway even after Doug told him I didn't speak spanish and asked if he could speak in English. He either didn't understand him or hear him or didn't really speak English like he said. Doug translated some for me but it was kinda hard to translate everything cuz he was talking so fast and we were in a hurry because we had to get back to our cab that was waiting for us to take us back in an hour. An hour wasn't really enough time to spend there but we took what we could get. It was fairly late in the day and we were about the only people there which was a nice change compared to the other places we had been.

Peru pics are here!

Finally got all my pics up on my site for your viewing pleasure! Check out the Gallery. I have a section for each place we went so click each one for more pics.

Here's a quick summary of what we did: We walked on floating islands, slept with bats flapping above our heads on an island with no running water or electricity, walked on Inka trails, ate Alpaca, took a 10 hour train from Cusco to Puno, were pick pocketed in Lima, saw more than 7 different ruins, had a pizza taste test in Puno, had French fries at almost every meal, spent a few minutes at a wedding celebration, and walked around at 14,176 ft elevation.

I may make another post to expound on some of the high points, but it will have to be another time because I have a lot of work to catch up on.

Why Dell Why?

Tell me if this makes any sense to you.

I ordered a Dell laptop before I left for vacation thinking it would arrive before I left. It ended up arriving the day we were to fly to Peru. UPS would not hold the package because it hadn't attempted it's first delivery yet which I think is pretty dumb. I told them no one would be here to sign for it but they didn't care. So they ended up sending the package back to Dell and it should arrive back at Dell today. I talked to a Dell rep yesterday and asked if it could be redelivered back to me and they said no but they could just put in a new order. So it has to be rebuilt again and go through the whole process of a new order when they could have just reshipped the package that was already ordered. What is the point of this? What are they going to do with the returned laptop? It makes no sense unless the reps get to keep any returned laptops or something. I looked at my account and the price for the new one does not have the discount on it so they better not charge me full price for it.

Doug had the same issue with Dell and the first person told him that they would credit him back the money and that they couldn't ship it back or ship him a new one. I told him he should try back later and talk to someone else and he did and they did the same thing that they are doing with me. That just seems stoopid.

Back from Peru

Yah I'm back and I have a ton of pics to go through 500+. So you'll just have to wait. I might get them all up tonight, but I doubt it. We'll see... Lots to tell but don't really have time now. I'm too busy at work today. I kept a journal while I was gone. It's about 40 pages long. I probly won't post it all here but I'll probly take tidbits from it. Gotta get back to work. Will write more later! Just wanted to let everyone know I'm back safe and sound.

skinny minnie

I know there's people that would give a lot to have the kind of metabolism I have. And it is nice most of the time. It is however embarassing when you have to resort to buying kids clothes cuz none of the adult clothes will fit you. Yes I actually did this today and have done it in the past. I wanted to buy some new pants at REI for our Peru trip. I'm not planning on bringing any jeans because they are well rather heavy to be lugging around all over in a backpack or wearing them all the time so I'm trying to travel as lightly as possible since the majority of the time we will be carrying all of our luggage all the time. So I went to REi hoping to find some nice clearance pants of which I didn't really find any though I tried on a few things that were much too big. It's sad when you can't even fit into a size 4, which appears to be the smallest women's size they have. :o The waists are just too big. So I sneaked over to the kids clothes section and tried on a couple of XL Girls clothes and actually found something that fit pretty well. It's actually been quite a while since I've resorted to kids clothes. One good benefit about buying kids clothes is they are almost 50% cheaper than adults clothes. Score! Hmm maybe I should buy kids clothes more often. :)

Almost vacation time!

Doug and I will be leaving Thurday for our trip to Peru! I'm so ready for vacation. Hard to believe it's almost here already! We finally have all of our reservations made for the hotels we'll be staying at and transportation. Well all except for one night where we are planning on staying with a family on Lake Titicaca. That should be an interesting experience. We still haven't figured out what we'll be doing everywhere yet. There are lot sof museums and ruins to visit. Buying my first laptop

I've never bought a laptop before. I've always bought desktops. I have a laptop but it's a work laptop that is a piece o' crap. I wasn't really planning on buying one. I have thought about it but that's about it no plans to actually go through with it. But I just couldn't pass up this deal that Dell is having right now. $750 off a $1500 laptop. That puts it at $750 laptop and it's not a piece of crap laptop either it's a decent piece of machine.

My Inner European

Your Inner European is Spanish!

Energetic and lively.

You bring the party with you!

Happy Anniversary to me!

Well not quite, but close enough. I got my 5 year anniversary gift today. a leather or probly fake leather duffle bag and a nice framed certificate signed by Stan Sigman, our President and CEO. April 26th is the offical anniversary date. If you count my year of contracting here though it would be 6 years of service at Cingular formerly ATT Wireless. Hard to believe it's been that long. 6 years ago I was in the same floor of the same building and have moved around to several different buildings since then.
Oh sorry I got distracted by some woman in the parking lot putting on makeup or popping a pimple or something. Did I mention I have a nice view of the parking lot from my new cube?

Our trip to Peru is only 2 weeks away! There's still so much planning we still have to do. We're gonna sit down this w/e and get the rest of our reservations made for hotels and stuff. So far we only have one hotel reservation made for two nights in Ollantaytambo.

Snoqualmie Falls

Some pics from a little trip Doug and I took to Snoqualmie Falls. Only the 2nd time I've been there since I've lived here. Its a nice little hike down to the falls and some rock climbing down to the river's shore. Yer actually not supposed to go near the water but everyone does.

Move Day

It was more like unpack day. The actual move took place on Thursday and Friday and maybe over the weekend. Monday I came to work in the old office building I used to be in when I first started here. I've since then been to two other buildings besides this one and am now back at it. I must say I much prefer the location though the cubes are a bit smaller, I think I can handle it. There's probly 25 restaurants, a grocery store, drug store, and shopping in walking distance. My orthodontist is also walking distance which is a plus. I think I will be getting a lot more exercise over here. I might also be spending more money over here too, but I'll be saving on gas so that makes up for it right? Just today I walked over to Larry's Market and bought some split pea soup and blue potato salad (it's not really blue it's got blue cheese in it which is really yummy). I also bought some dill rye bread, milk, and malt-o-meal, which I seem to remember liking when I was a kid. I haven't had it since I was a kid so I'm hoping I will like it. I would have gotten brown sugar cream of wheat but dangit they didn't have that kind. I suppose I could just add brown sugar to the regular flavor of cream of wheat but well that's just too much work.

Tomorrow is my work from home day and I feel a cold coming on so I might just call in sick on Wednesday. I haven't been sick for over a year I was hoping I'd manage to avoid it but I started getting a sore throat last night and today it's still sore and I've been a little sniffly and just don't really feel that great. Only an hour and a half to go of work today!

Changing Recipes

Ok it really torks me when a restaurant you go to changes the way they make stuff. Or when a restaurant has diff chefs and depending on who the chef is the dish is totally different. I can understand diff restaurants making something a diff way but if it's one restaurant I think they should use the same recipes no matter who is chefing. I have run across this several times.

1) Venus Cafe - They have/had the best puttanesca, it was one of my fav dishes at this place. BUT, depending on who was the chef when we were there it was either really good or really bad. Apparently other customers had complained about liking one over the other and there was so much controversy over this that they ended up taking it off their menu altogether even though it was one of their more popular menu items. IRKED me!

2) Main Street Ale House - They had some of the best chicken wings. Not the sauce covered messy ones which are good too sometimes, but they had the breaded crispy spicey chicken wings. One day they just decided to up and change how they made em and no more can you get the crispy spicey yummy ones I used to love. :(

3) Today I got some Egg Foo Yung from a chinese restaurant I don't go to very often but I know I've ordered this from them before. It used to be really good a nice thick brown gravy over these patties of egg and vegetables. I get it today and wth it's now got a bunch of nasty mushrooms (which I hate) and the gravy was all runny. Seemed/tasted like mushroom broth or something. I don't know if there was a diff chef today or if they just changed the way they make it. Grrr

More Peeps

It's Peep week!

Check out this video from CNN. Bunch of crazy stuff people do with peeps

Happy April Fools Day!!

So I had this plan at work. Well someone else gave me the idea and gave me the goods but I'm the one that set it up. So I was told that you can actually buy Harry Potter Jelly Beans. You know all those gross flavors they had in the movie. So a few days later which was actually a couple weeks ago he stops by and hands me a box and told me I should put them out for April Fools. It's just a small box probly less than 50 beans so I put it in my candy dish today for people to eat. The last couple days I've had easter candy in it so I didn't think it would be too far off the wall to have jelly beans in my candy dish. I've had them before. Well I haven't seen anyone go near my candy dish yet today :( A lot of people took the day off. For good reason I guess. The day's already half over. Eat up people! Here's a list of the different flavors. There are actually some regular flavored ones.

Woo nothing like free jewelry. Thanks to Moe for blogging about this site that is giving away free sterling silver jewelry. All you have to do is pay for shipping. I finally found a ring that might be small enough to fit on my scrawny little fingers. Here's a pic of what I got for 5.99.

I bet your cat likes...

olives! Green olives!

No really, I bet they do. Try it! So Doug made me a martini on Friday with lots of olives. Not long after the martini making he pet his cat Thor and Thor just started freakin out on his hand. Licking, nibbling, biting his hand. Took us a little while but finally figured out it was the olive juice that his was freakin for. His other cat seemed to enjoy it as well. That is goofy. So I decided to try it out on my cat too. Geez she loves olives too. That is the weirest thing I've ever heard a cat liking. I bet your cat likes green olives too or at least the olive juice. We didn't try giving them a whole olive.

Do the IPOD Shuffle

We did this back in mid January, and it's time again for Shuffle Music Challenge. Here are Moe's results

1. Open up the music player on your computer.
2. Set it to play your entire music collection.
3. Hit the "shuffle" command.
4. Tell us the title of the next ten songs that show up (with their musicians), no matter how embarrassing. That's right, no skipping that Carpenters tune that will totally destroy your hip credibility. It's time for total musical honesty.

IPOD Shuffle (currently have 3341 songs):
01. Wallflowers - Angel on my Bike
02. Bad Religion - Live Again - The Fall of Man
03. Lo Fidelity Allstars - Kasparov's Revenge
04. The Cure - Out of this World
05. Interpol - Obstacle 1
06. The Futureheads - Carnival Kids
07. U2 - Discotheque
08. Pavement - Hit the Plane Down
09. The Crystal Method - Weapons of Mass Distortion
10. Longwave - Everywhere you turn
11. Gypsy Kings - Zorba the Greek

Color of the month

Teal is the color of the month! Since my brackets fell off I had to get them put back on and in order for them to get put back on I had to have my old bands and wire taken out to get them back on. So I got to pick new colors! yay. I went clear again on the top and teal for the bottom. Sorry grend31 and Doug, black will have to wait for next time which will probly be less than 5 weeks away since I'm scheduled for a tightening the beginnig of next month. My appt to get my brackets back on was basically the same as what an adjustment/tightning appt would be like. I guess I'm going to have to get spacers again though for the way back so they can put bands on the way back teeth. I hear that's not very pleasant so I'm not looking forward to that appt next month.

Gimmay PB LOCO

Meeting Moe tonight before my hair appt in Renton to get my PB Loco. As I mentioned before I worked out a trade with Javvy PB Loco for candles. Moe made the swap for us last time she was in MN... Luckily she lives not too far away, in Renton. Usually only time I get out that way is when I get my hair colored. I used to live in Renton and she's actually the one that recommended this place. I really like em and I've tried several other places closer to where I work but none of them do as good a job as Wendy at Salon Tii Gavo so I just keep coming back. I dont really get my hair colored that often. It's usually a once or twice a year event. I don't do anything drastic usually something close to my natural color with some added highlights or shades. I don't like getting a color that I have to keep going back every month or two to have my roots colored.

I think I will borrow a plastic spoon from work to eat some pb loco on the way home tonight. hehe

Ortho Journal

So with the advice from my co-worker, I've started an ortho journal because I just have not been happy with the service I've gotten so far from these people. Here are the last three entries from the journal.

3/18 - Bracket on top 3rd from back right came off while eating breaded fish. Removed the bracket as it was sliding along the wire in front of my space.

3/20 - Lower bracket below tooth where other bracket came off came loose while eating bread. It did not slide around and wans't uncomfortable so left bracket on. In the morning my tooth was hurting so I removed it which was more challenging than the other since I had to slide the bracket under the tight wire.

3/21 - called to make an appt to have brackets put back on. Talked to Heidi? she said next appt avail was not till wed 3/23 at 12:10 and that was the only thing open for the rest of the week. I had to cancel a mtg to make the wed appt.

Previous entries included my expriences with being the guinea pig for the new people in the office.

Palm Reading

So Doug and I went out to Gallo's (Gallo de oro) and MSAH (Main Street Ale House) in Bothell last night. It's funny there's this lady that frequents these places, which we haven't seen in a while, but anyway she goes to Gallo's sometimes and we heard her talking about it one day and we laughed at her because she pronounces it wrong. She calls it Gal ohs but it's a mexican restaurant and it's really pronounced guy ohs. So anywho last night we met some people at MSAH and we were talking to em and Doug said we had dinner at Gal ohs. Ever since we heard this other lady call it that we've been calling it that. I have no idea why just cuz we think it's funny. So now when we talk about the place to other people we don't really think about it and we say it wrong. I had to correct him after he said it cuz the people we were talking to didn't know what we were talking about.

At MSAH they had some bag pipers there playing some music. They were there last year but it didn't seem quite as loud this time, though it was still loud. We met a couple of new people that claim to be regulars even though I don't think we've ever seen them there before. One girl we met got drunk after three beers and she started reading people's palms. I don't think i've had my palms read before and I'm not sure how good she really is at it. She claims she only does it when she's drunk. I apparently have a very long life line and a short love line and I'm very analytical and she kept saying over and over again that I need to take more vitamins. Pfft. I just started taking multi-vitamins on a fairly regular basis this year. She says I need to take supplements too and started going off on all these things I need to take. Good grief. I probably should take a calcium supplement but I don't think all these others she listed are really necessary. My women's one a day should do the trick. This girl also likes petting people's hair and grabbing guys butts. Did I mention she was drunk?

Wednesday, March 16, 2005

Finally decided to take some pics of my braces... I got purple bands on the bottom and clear on the top. Every 5 weeks when I go in for adjustments I can get diff colors put on so I think I'm gonna try a diff color each time I go in on the bottom and always get the clear on top. What color should I get next? They have teal, black, blue, red, green, grey, yellow, orange, pink, and a bunch of other colors I can't remember.

you might notice the bands on the top are kinda yellow. That happened on sunday when we were out at Fado's Irish Pub in Seattle and I had some Chicken Curry that stained em yellow. They'll just stay yellow I guess until I have them replaced in April.

Gettin' shot up today

Wow the busyness at work continues. I kinda like being busy again it makes the days go by much faster that's for sure! We're doing site audits of all the "orange" cingular sites and I'm helping getting the data from the audits into our database along with all my other work that I'm doing.

Doug and I are getting our immunization shots today for our Peru trip. Not sure yet which ones we're getting but I think there will be a lot. I need to get updated on my MMR and Tetanus and we'll probly get Typhoid and Hep A and maybe others. We're meeting someone to talk about where we're going and they're supposed to recommend what immunizations to get then we decide which ones we want to take. Appt is in an hour! I hope none of them make me sick.

I'm a New Mommy

I discovered I'm the mommy of 9 baby platies! I was cleaning out my filters in my 29 gallon and I pulled out the outside filter and was about to dump the water out and noticed there were some little babies in the filter :o I got out my baby saver and put it in the tank and dumped the water into it and counted out 9 little babies. They are still really small but their egg sacks are gone. They probably haven't been in there for too long. I'm sure there were a lot more that didn't make it into the filter and ended up in some fishes tummy. I was pretty surprised there were that many. She must have had a bunch of babies. Here's a pic I took of a couple of the babies.

REI Dividend

Got my REI Dividend a few weeks ago and I just got back from spending it all. I got a big one this year $228! I use my REI Credit Card a lot and I get 1% cashback at the end of the year to go on an REI shopping spree. Two years ago I bought a bike and last year I don't remember what I got I think it was just a bunch of little things clothes and stuff. This year I got some stuff for our trip to Peru:

I was thinking about getting one of those travel packs with the wheels so I wouldn't have to carry it around in the airports but those things are just too bulky and heavy so I decided to go with the one I did. It was much lighter and easier to handle. It comes with a day pack too and it's quite comfortable. One more thing I would like to get for the trip is some good sunglasses. Ones with polarized lenses.
